ABOUT ME

I have called Watauga County home since 1987, and I am an Appstate Alumna with 25 years in the legal field. I began my career as a family law paralegal in 2002 and I worked in that capacity until 2013. I worked in the Clerk's office from 2013-2015. Since 2015, I have served a Judicial Services Coordinator in the Probation Office, handling court intake for supervised probation and monitoring unsupervised cases with court-ordered community service.

Over the course of my career, I have been fortunate enough to gather experience from different areas of the judicial system. I understand how the different divisions in the Clerk's Office run. I believe that combination of experience leaves me uniquely suited to maintain the level of service our community expects from the Clerk's office.

I am someone who enjoys meeting new people and getting to know them. I am approachable and listen to those who need to talk. I am also very proud of the strong, long-standing relationships I have built over the years, including Judges, Attorneys, Clerks, Law Enforcement, and County Officials.

Running for Clerk of Superior Court in Watauga County is a continuation of my ongoing devotion to public service and this community.

What does the Clerk of Court do?

The Clerk's role is vital not just to the courthouse and its operation, but to the community as well. The Clerk of Superior Court serves in a variety of roles: as a record keeper, as an administrator who ensures the creation of court files and other court documents that include summons or subpoenas, as a comptroller who disburses funds, and as a leader
who ensures that all divisions of the courthouse operate seamlessly. In North Carolina, Clerks of Court also serve as probate judges, having jurisdiction over estate administration and probate of wills. Clerks also preside over adoptions and guardianships, with jurisdiction over 46 types of legal actions.

My Goals for Office

If elected, I would bring an array of knowledge and experience from different areas of the legal system. I understand the importance of keeping accurate records, as it affects every department the Clerk's office works with.  I will strive to promote efficiency and professionalism in all areas of the Clerk's Office. I will ensure that my team is knowledgeable and up-to-date on all aspects of the Clerk's office operations.

I want to be known for having an office that facilitates accessibility, operates with transparency and efficiency, and treats everyone with respect. I believe in treating others the way I would like to be treated, and I am confident that will translate to the environment and operation of the Watauga County Clerk’s Office. Being a public servant is a great honor that I do not take for granted, and, if elected, I will always be available to the citizens of Watauga County.
